Spain and Germany’s deadly E. coli row

Spain has reacted angrily to claims from Germany that cucumbers from Spain have caused an E. coli outbreak in Germany, killing 16 so far and affecting over 1,400.

The German authorities originally pointed to the Spanish produce, although Spain stated there was “no reliable data”, and that has since been admitted. As a result, the cause of the strain of the deadly infection remains unknown.

Germany must so continue to seek the source, as the number of confirmed cases is growing rapidly and more fatalities are very likely.
