Barcelona finish off Madrid

The final meeting between the Spanish giants took place on Tuesday evening in the second-leg of the Champions League semi-final. Barca were strong favourites to progress after Lionel Messi’s masterclass gave them a 0 – 2 win in the Bernabeu, although most talk focused on the ridiculous antics of the players and Jose Mourinho during and after the match.

The first half was largely-dominated by the hosts as they kept Madrid at bay with their slick passing, although no goals were forthcoming.

That changed early in the second period when Andres Iniesta played in Pedro Rodriguez to fire Barcelona ahead. Madrid responded quickly through Marcelo, but it ended quite comfortably for the Catalans, 1 – 1 on the night and 3 – 1 on aggregate.

It is highly likely that they will play Manchester United in the final at Wembley on 28 May. United must defend a two-goal advantage at home to Schalke on Wednesday.
