Action against Twitter over super-injuction

The married Premier League footballer who has a super-injunction to hide his identity after having an affair with Big Brother star Imogen Thomas, has now issued legal action against social networking site Twitter in an effort to uncover which users published information on the site recently.

The confidential information was released after a number of accounts were opened and posted details. Other super-injunctions were disclosed too.

Action is being taken against both Twitter and Imogen Thomas. However, it seems unlikely that it will be successful against the website because of the ambiguity of the laws surrounding the Internet and because Twitter is unlikely to co-operate anyway, having resisted similar efforts from the US government over Wikileaks data.

In response to the news of the legal challenge, hundreds of further users have posted the information again, thus complicating the situation and any possible action from the law.
