UK voters make Lib Dems suffer

With voting results coming in for the UK local elections 2011, it is becoming clear that, as expected, the Liberal Democrats are suffering more than most as the public give a first indication of their feelings since the coalition government came into power.

Their main losses were in the north of England, as they lost a large amount of seats to Labour in some of the major cities such as Sheffield.

The SNP ran riot in Scotland, where Labour’s lead in the polls was not reflected in the voting, and Alex Salmond’s party could yet gain a majority in Holyrood.

Labour did record great success in Wales though, with the possibility of claiming a majority in Cardiff as the Lib Dems struggled again.

The “Yes to AV” campaign, backed mainly by the Lib Dems, also seems to have taken a heavy defeat, and calls are already growing for the party’s leader, Nick Clegg, to consider his position.
