Mladic fights extradition

Ratko Mladic, the former Serb army chief who was finally arrested last week under suspicion of numerous war crimes, will appeal against his extradition to the Hague late on Monday.

Mladic’s lawyer is attempting to delay proceedings on the basis of his client being too ill to stand trial. The charges include war crimes such as the 1995 Srebernica massacre, in which 7,500 Muslims were killed.

Many are dubious about various elements of the story though, with claims that Gen Mladic is in fact in a very reasonable state of health, and many questioning the timing of Serbia’s finding of its long-sought was criminal, given that they are currently seeking approval to join the EU.
