80 dead as “revenge for bin Laden”

The brutal double suicide bombing on a paramilitary academy in north-west Pakistan which left at least 80 people dead and many more injured was a revenge attack for the killing of Osama bin Laden, the Taliban have claimed.

After President Obama announced that a special strike force had shot bin Laden dead in a raid earlier this month, debate has raged over the legality of the attack. Americans and many others celebrated the news but al-Qaeda was quick to voice its intention to avenge the death of its leader.

The bombings of the Shabqadar base have left scores of people dead or wounded. Some thought bringing bin Laden to justice may end the war on terror, but this latest tragedy indicates that it could be far from the truth.
