Following the death of Osama Bin Laden during the raid of 2 May, al-Qaeda has announced its new choice of leader - the 59-year-old Egyptian Ayman Al-Zawahiri.
Despite the continued threat from the terrorist group, illustrated by the frequent bombings in Pakistan, US officials have made clear that they are not worried by the new leader, claiming him to be an "armchair general", and threatening to see that he meets a similar end to that of his predecessor.
However, Defence Secretary Robert Gates did warn of the perpetual nature of al-Qaeda, advising mindfulness of their persistent threat.
