Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh suffered numerous injuries in the attack on his compound on Friday. It is reported he could have some shrapnel near his heart, and he is also being treated for burns.
Authorities had confirmed that he remained in Sana'a, where the attack took place, after rumours he was being treated in Saudi Arabia. However, his departure from Yemen was announced on Sunday, resulting in celebrations from protestors on the streets.
The latest incident shows how tensions are escalating over calls for his resignation. The campaign started in January, and at least 350 people have died so far.
