UN condemns Syria

The international community has (finally) made noises which indicate it is ready to consider action against Syria, as the reported killing of protesters by government forces shows no sign of ending.

A meeting on Wednesday between representatives of the UN will decide whether an investigation should be started into the deaths in the country. Several nations have supported Ban Ki-moon’s suggestions that the Security Council must choose a course of action.

The current death toll is above 400 during the pro-democracy protests which have been ongoing for a month across the entire country, but particularly in the city of Deraa. It is expected that the UN will now start pressuring the Syrian authorities and look to enforce strict sanctions if there is a lack of response from President Bashar al-Asaad and his men.
