Battle for Ivory Coast presidency

The main city of the Ivory coast, Abidjan, hosted a battle on Friday between forces of the two men warring over the presidency of the country following the disputed election result from last November.

The run-off vote was won by Alassane Ouattara who is recognised as the president by the UN, but Laurent Gbagbo has since refused to leave the role that he held before he lost.

Forces of Mr Ouattara are now attacking the compound that is currently held by Mr Gbagbo, as months of civil war appears to be approaching a conclusion with the defection of many of Mr Gbagbo’s people.

The city is reported to be full of heavy gunfire, putting everyone in the area at great risk.
