Celtic manager targeted by parcel bomb

The manager of Celtic, Neil Lennon, has received a parcel bomb. This latest attack is one in a series of incidents which indicate that Scottish football is struggling with Sectarianism.

Two other similar packages were sent to Lennon’s lawyer, Paul McBride QC, and an officer of the Scottish Parliament, Trish Godman, both of whom are public Celtic fans.

These attempts to “kill or maim” follow an announcement by UEFA that Celtic’s fierce rivals, Rangers, will be investigated for Sectarian chanting by fans.

Lennon has also been physically assaulted in the past, the club stating that he was knocked unconscious as he walked home alone after an Old Firm defeat.

Authorities have announced their determination to find and persecute those responsible, and to avoid allowing Scottish football to become embroiled in Sectarianism, but recent events are still immensely troubling for all involved.
