More killings in Syrian protests

28 Syrians were allegedly killed during peaceful protests over the weekend when security forces opened fire in order to disperse crowds, including 26 who were said to be attending funerals of deceased protestors in the city of Daraa on Saturday. It has been claimed that 37 died in similar incidents on Friday.

The recent tragedies have resulted in a statement from the National Organisation for Human Rights, which described events as a “flagrant violation”.

The government is reacting to public movements which have been inspired by revolutions in other Arab countries such as Tunisia and Egypt.

The brutal responses have not done much to daunt the people though, as protests are still spreading across the entire country in an effort to oust the authoritarian regime.
