Champions League woes in Manchester

The fallout from last night's Champions League matches is consuming both Manchester clubs as they look to rebound from disappointing results and performances.

Sir Alex Ferguson has expressed his frustration at his players who threw away a 2-0 lead at Old Trafford, where they were saved by a last-minute Ashley Young header to take a point against Basel of Switzerland, 3-3 on the night.

But the furore was far greater at "noisy neighbours" City, where a 2-0 defeat against Bayern Munich was compounded by revelations that Carlos Tevez refused to come on as a substitute.

The reaction to the news from the media and fans was furious, given the Argentine's astronomical wages, but he has since claimed he was "misunderstood", although his time at the club now seems to be over - considering his manager's comments.

With both clubs having struggled in the opening matches of this season's competition, some might question why they have been able to enjoy such easy starts to the domestic campaign.
