Liverpool to the Maxi!

Liverpool knew that a draw in the Premier League on Sunday evening would lift them out of the relegation zone, but Bolton’s Reebok Stadium was not the most inviting place they could have chosen as they hoped to build on last week’s win against Blackburn.

The visitors had the better of play for much of a poor-quality game, creating a few chances but unable to take any with a squad lacking in confidence and form, even through their Spanish striker, Fernando Torres.

Bolton had some chances of their own, but with only minutes left, Liverpool snatched the three points when Torres played a delightful flick through to Maxi Rodriguez. His poked finish squeezed under the ‘keeper and in off the crossbar to give the Reds their first away win this season, which sees them move up to twelfth place in the league, thanks to a 0 – 1 result.

Elsewhere, Newcastle United took home the spoils in the Tyne-Wear derby by thrashing Sunderland 5 – 1 at St James’s Park.
