Reports on Saturday morning suggested that Algerian security forces were having to move swiftly in the attempt to stop a public democracy uprising similar to those which have proved successful in Tunisia and, very recently, Egypt.
Friday saw the armed forces struggling to subdue widespread celebrations at news of the fall or Egypt’s president, Hosni Mubarak.
An anti-government rally is planned in the centre of Algiers, the capital of Algeria, although riot police will be there to prevent any attempts at a revolution.
